Poker

There are a lot of applications to choose from on the online market, ones you pay for and others you play for free. The great thing about them is, so long as they are downloaded to your phone, you can play them wherever you happen to be in the world. Whether you are in France or Japan, as with all products, some are more popular than others. From gaming applications to reading, to video, the world is literally your oyster on a cell phone nowadays. You can access the internet to play games of poker on websites like Party Poker, upload videos to YouTube, and even check out the TV listings if you want to.

We’re going to imagine you are currently (or planning to) travel around France, from Paris to the south coast on a vacation that intends to both show you the tourist sites and let you relax. What applications can you use to entertain yourself during the train journeys and drizzly days in your hotel room?

Poker

Poker

To be honest, I don’t even need to name a particular app here, because there are so many different variations of regular poker and Texas Hold’em available on Google Play, iTunes and Windows Phone, that it would be surprising if you could not find a satisfactory one. The online apps give you access to some of the top poker rooms on the internet, perfect for whiling the hours away or practising for your next casino visit.

Angry Birds

An ingeniously simple concept of a game that combines birds, pigs, sling shots and destruction into one fun adventure. The rules are simple. You have to protect the Angry Birds by seeking revenge on the green pigs that stole their eggs. You then battle through all 150 levels using logic and skill. Completed it yet? Me neither.

Skype

The Skype app allows the user to make Skype calls for free, even if you are in Paris while the caller is in the US. You will know which contacts are available to chat, and can use your device camera to allow them to see you and vice versa. Perfect to tell them all about your trip to Versailles and show them your pitiful attempts to teach your travelling partner how to play poker with a deck of cards.

Kindle

You can buy the Kindle hardware from Amazon, or you can download the app. Optimized for Android, and even Windows Phone the Kindle app enables you to download and read Kindle books on the easy interface. You could look over a novel, educate yourself about France with a factual book about the country’s history, or even read up on the best ways to tackle the opposition in a poker game. Over 700,000+ books are available, thousands of which are free.

YouTube

The YouTube mobile service is available for you on the Android app. Browse and access millions of videos on your phone everyday, even if it is just to watch videos that will teach you first hand how to play that poker app you downloaded earlier. YouTube is for poker players and music lovers alike.
